Our surroundings have a significant effect on how we feel. Living or working in a disorganised or poorly considered environment can add even more stress to our busy lives. Likewise, a bland and dull interior or lacklustre display doesn’t represent your business or product at its best. I can help you with this. Together we can work out exactly what you want from your interior space or editorial shoot. We can consider what’s missing from your current design scheme and what makes you feel good when you walk into a room. I love creating the perfect atmosphere – stepping into a well-designed or well-organised space can really lift your spirits.
Oaki Design strives to bring you interiors with soul: spaces that look good AND make you feel good. Rooms that are functional and comfortable, with a touch of tasteful eccentricity – muted doesn’t have to mean dull! I’m passionate about finding original results for your project, while staying true to your core requirements. Working together we can discover what you really want from your interior space, whether that’s your home, business, or important event.
My background in graphic design has provided me with many transferable skills for my career in interior design, including a meticulous eye for detail and a talent for project management. Graduating from university with a first-class honours degree in art and design, I spent many years in both employed and freelance positions – branding companies and helping them to improve their business presence by designing websites, brochures and other corporate materials that reflected their values. I approach interior design and styling with a similar mindset – we are branding your space, improving your presence, making you feel more contented and well organised.
My decision to move from graphics into interiors happened in 2015. Craving a new challenge and more creative scope, I enrolled at the prestigious KLC School of Design in Chelsea. Interior design is a dynamic occupation that has many dimensions – it requires a great deal of research and lots of sourcing and travelling – looking for the right item of furniture for a private client, or tracking down the perfect prop for a set. I love the variety and the opportunity to push the boundaries.
In April 2017, I took the title ‘Room Set Designer of The Year’ at Grand Designs Live. I was one of only six national finalists challenged to create a room set inspired by a TV series. In 2015, I was also the winner of the Mahout Lifestyle textile design competition, for my love story-inspired dhurrie rug. My rug has now joined Mahout’s extensive online collection.
